Isenberg Reacts: WWE Smackdown Live “Nice To Finally Meet You, Dean”

Who Is The First For Becky Lynch?

Smackdown Live featured a 5 women match to crown a new number one contender, with Alexa Bliss getting the heel victory in what was a really fun and entertaining match. You had Carmella, Nikki, Naomi, Natalya and Alexa Bliss do battle in a match that really featured what was best in each woman. Carmella and Nikki continued their feud in the match, with some cheap kicks and shots from Carmella. Natalya played her part, coming so close to making Naomi tap out only to get it broken up. The real winner here tonight was Alexa because I do think she has been the most consistent newcomer in this division on Smackdown Live.

Alexa Bliss is one of the women who look and act like a spoiled brat, which is what she should do. She has a great appeal to her and is a small, but strong stature. She was the best heel option right now to be the first challenger. I do see this being more than just a one-off for Bliss. You need to see what she provides on a weekly basis. If NXT lacked one thing, it was character development outside of their “stars.” Many of the women were simplistic and generic. Alexa does NOT have that look and she capitalized tonight with a victory and the first opponent for Becky. I expect some solid bouts with a focus on technicality.

Tag Team Matchups

The Uso’s and The Hype Bros did battle on Smackdown Live from Philadelphia and was a similar outcome from the previous night. With Ryder and Rawley being new to the tag team division, I expected them to come back for a win tonight. Instead, WWE realized that a heel team in Jey and Jimmy could be really good to revitalize their careers. The offense is cocky, yet flashy. They are not getting cheers and their personality is perfect for what they are trying to accomplish. Take off the colors, strip them down to black and white and add a cocky “Rock” like gimmick to them to get boos.

The WWE Tag Team Champions Heath Slater and Rhyno competed against The Ascension after Heath Slater signed his contract. Much like we would expect in any Ascension match, Konnor hit a few big powerful moves and Viktor hit a DDT and some fast striking before they were finished off in short time. I enjoy Slater and Rhyno, but do think they need to immediately find a team to feud with. Hopefully, this down week was them preparing for a heel team to come and fight them. If I am Smackdown, I do my best in trying to make The Vaudevillians something of relevance again. You do not want to see The Uso’s become champions again or be in a feud to lose with a new gimmick this fast. Let them have their business with American Alpha take center stage.

Speaking of, what in the HELL is WWE thinking not having them on Smackdown? I hate it and there is no explanation for them to be placed on WWE Main Event. WOW!
