Sut Jhally, writer and director of a documentary entitled "Wrestling With Manhood" has issued several statements regarding the WWE's "Attitude Era" under former executive, and current Republican Senatorial candidate Linda McMahon. The documentary breaks down the wrestling product throughout the era, which Jhally claims depicted women as "big-breasted objects of violent or lascivious male fantasies."
Jhally says in the documentary that WWE pulled off a “grand trick” by taking “a conservative 1950s version of the world” and selling it to men as “rebellious,” “cutting-edge,” “different,” and “individualistic.”
The interview with Jhally was published in local Connecticut news source, the Journal Inquirer, which reaches viewers in the same area as the WWE's headquarters in Stamford, CT.
