Alberto Del Rio Comments on Becoming Combate Americas President, Talks Fighters as Entertainers, Will He Still Wrestle?

As noted, former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio was announced tonight as the new President of Combate Americas, and Del Rio spoke with ESPN to elaborate on his new role. Del Rio had the following to say:

“I’m going to be recruiting fighters and I’m going to be there to help them get to the place that they want to get. We have a lot of talent in the company. Most of that talent is Hispanic. That makes me really happy to be able to help them.

I am going to try and bring all of that experience to not just make great fighters, but great entertainers. We know Ronda [Rousey] and [Conor] McGregor are great fighters but they are also showmen. McGregor is an amazing fighter and his Octagon skills are not in debate. But the reason why he has accomplished all of those things is because he is a showman. And people want to see him winning or losing — but they want to see him.”

Del Rio added he will continue to wrestle part-time while working to recruit talent and grow the company.

Nick was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and lived there until the age of 18, when he decided to pack his flack jacket and move to New York City.

Nick attended New York University and graduated in 2001 with a degree in Drama.

Nick first entered the internet wrestling community back in 2004 when he became the co-host of The Voice of Wrestling Radio Show. From there, Nick made the transition from radio personality to editor when he began working with WrestleZone in 2008.

Nick is a member of two Off-Broadway theatre companies, Another Urban Riff, and the Drama Desk Award winning Godlight Theatre Company. Nick has appeared in over a dozen Off-Broadway plays since he moved to New York City, and has shot several short and feature length films. In 2010, he completed principle photography on a film titled "How to Score Your Life," which also features TNA Knockout ODB.

Inspiration in his life has come from many people including his family, Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg, Jack Nicholson, The Beatles, and of course, Lassie.
