Shawn Michaels Appreciates Seeing His Legacy Living On Through Action Figures

Shawn Michaels appreciates how the WWE action figure line from Mattel has continued to help immortalize Superstars like him.

Shawn Michaels was a guest on WWE’s The Bump this morning to discuss a variety of subjects. During the segment, they revealed series two of the WWE Superstars action figure line from Mattel, which features Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Michaels himself. HBK put over how special it is to be still getting action figures a decade after retiring as an in-ring wrestler for WWE:

“So that’s where it gets real special to us. I know we’re older guys. You guys call us legends, nicely enough. But it really is. Bill and everybody at Mattel for 10 years, it’s been over a decade since I’ve been retired, and the fact that they’re now again exposing the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels to a younger generation. It really is between that and the network and the action figures. It is amazing to me every time you start to think that maybe, you know, you’re coming down to the hill, going down the hill, and easing into a life to where maybe you could go to Disney World and have a decent time with your family. It’s no, I mean, you’re still gonna be recognized and get swarmed by people which again, I’m not complaining about, but it really is just the length, and the longevity that they now allow for those of us that have long since passed is really quite amazing and obviously very humbling at the same time.”

Shawn Michaels also put over the attention to detail of the action figures that Mattel is currently producing alongside the fact that it helps a younger generation discover him and other wrestlers of his era:

“So it’s the combination of the attention to detail. Again, that to me is mind-blowing, how specific and how everything they have now as you can really make it out and again, as Bill touched on earlier, some Easter eggs things you might not have noticed in action figures of the past and of course the fact that you can’t forget the functionality. To me, it’s just dynamic. Everything that they’ve done, they continue to evolve and expand. Again the livelihood of those of us that stopped doing this quite some time ago and beginning to extend ourselves to another generation, again, is an unbelievable thing, and Baron and Riddick, you can both look forward to this in the future, all right? It’s not a bad gig, boys!”

Shawn Michaels was also asked about his various ring attires, and if that was done to make sure he would have multiple action figures made of himself, Michaels revealed that wasn’t the idea at the time, and it was “Macho Man” Randy Savage who encouraged him to always wear different outfits when wrestling:

“So I honestly didn’t at the time. Look, I’ve been very blessed to be really, really not smart on one hand, but that being not smart has stumbled me into a lot of positive things in my lifetime. But no, I can remember it was The Macho Man that is the one that really encouraged me to constantly have different outfits, and you don’t really notice until years later what a positive thing that was to your point when it came to the action figures and how that made it easier for them to constantly be able to produce more of them. And so that’s something I think I think the talent knows it now. But when it all first started, it was it was never at least me anyway, I wasn’t smart enough to have given that much forethought too much of anything I did.”

Shawn Michaels also spoke about the nWo’s influence on D-Generation X; you can read his remarks about both stables at this link.
