Hiroshi Tanahashi: NJPW STRONG Will End With 1/7 Recording

NJPW STRONG is coming to an end, according to Hiroshi Tanahashi.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling launched the STRONG brand in 2020, somewhat in response to the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic caused with the promotion’s effort to expand into the United States. STRONG has been a stateside brand for NJPW, as the company holds tapings in America and airs the show every Saturday on NJPW World. On January 7, NJPW aired the newest episode, which featured matches from the Nemesis taping in December.

In his blog, Tanahashi wrote that NJPW STRONG will conclude with the latest recording.

“#NJPWSTRONG, which has been going on for more than 2 years, will end with this recording. It seems that the overseas tournament will be told in a different way in the future,” he wrote.

NJPW has yet to comment on the future of NJPW STRONG, but company president Takami Ohbari previously stated that the brand would be “rebuilt” in 2023.

Throughout its run, stars like Jay White and Eddie Kingston, among many others, have competed on STRONG.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
