WrestleMania 41 Women’s Match Earns 5-Star Rating From Dave Meltzer

One WrestleMania 41 match earned the high honor of being rated a five-star match by Dave Meltzer.

Meltzer released his ratings for WWE’s show this week, and unsurprisingly, one of most praised matches took home the honor. The WWE Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match between IYO SKY, Rhea Ripley, and Bianca Belair took home the rating of five stars.

The match saw IYO walk away with a win, retaining her title in a stellar match. The bout — which opened Night 2 of WrestleMania 41 — was praised by fans as being an incredible start to the show.

The final moments of the match saw Bianca Belair look to win after hitting a KOD on IYO. Ripley broke up the pin, which led to an argument with Belair. Rhea and Bianca fought back and forth before Ripley countered IYO and slammed her into the ring post. Ripley countered another KOD attempt and went for Riptide, but Belair countered with another successful KOD. Belair made the cover, but IYO came off the top rope and hit an Over the Moonsault on Belair for the win.

IYO’s win was also the first win by a Japanese WWE Superstar in 27 years. The last Japanese wrestler to win a main card match at WrestleMania was Taka Michinoku. They defeated Aguila for the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XIV. (Yoshi Tatsu won a 26-man battle royal at WrestleMania XXVI, but that was a pre-show dark match and did not air on the show).
