Skye Blue gets candid about her injury recovery.
Tonight’s new episode of AEW Dynamite will mark the official in-ring return of Skye Blue. Nearly a year ago, though, the young AEW star thought she’d be headed toward an early retirement after sustaining a serious leg injury during a match.
According to Skye Blue, her injury occurred while trying to catch a diving Hikaru Shida during their match on an episode of AEW Collision in July 2024. Upon impact with the floor, Skye Blue then felt her foot dangling from her leg. Doctors later discovered the specific injury to be a fractured fibula. This resulted in the need for surgery, and they ended up putting a steel plate and a number of screws in her leg.
“That definitely crossed through my head a bunch of times, especially at night when I couldn’t sleep and it’d be like four in the morning,” Skye Blue told Q101 host Case Lowe when asked if she considered her injury the possible end of her career.
Skye Blue thought she might have to retire due to injury
“There was times that I would have to lay with my legs straight because if I moved it, it was just in pain. But this one [Kyle Fletcher] was the best because he would be like ‘No, tell the voices to shut up because you’re going to wrestle. You’re not going to just sit on this couch and mope.’ Yeah, he was by far the biggest support I could have ever asked for.”
She also showed the thick, visible scar that still remains on her ankle, which can be seen in the video below.
Looking ahead, Skye Blue will compete in a four-way eliminator match also involving AZM, Mina Shirakawa, and AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm on this week’s special “Beach Break” episode of Dynamite.
