The Rock will star in another A24 film, a psychological thriller called Breakthrough.
He is also set to appear in A24’s The Smashing Machine later this year. In the first trailer for this Mark Kerr biopic, The Final Boss looks almost unrecognizable. The film also stars Emily Blunt and is written and directed by Benny Safdie.
According to Deadline, The Rock will co-star in Breakthrough. Stacey Sher, The Rock, and Dany Garcia are producing. Jacob Epstein and Justin Wolf will executive produce. Zeke Goodman is writing the script. However, the movie has yet to finalize a director. Casting for the lead and supporting roles is currently in progress.
Deadline reports read as follows: Set in turn-of-the-millennium Southern California, the story follows an alienated young man who comes under the influence of a motivational guru, whose intoxicating charm masks his morally questionable methods of manipulation and his own concealed darkness. We’re told Johnson will play the supporting role of the guru, with casting still underway for the lead role and other supporting parts.
Bully Ray blames The Rock for John Cena’s heel turn falling flat
John Cena surprised fans by turning heel and teaming up with The Rock at WWE Elimination Chamber: Toronto. But Cena never talked about why he joined The Rock during the lead-up to WrestleMania 41 against Cody Rhodes. However, The Rock said he wanted the spotlight on Cena for his final WrestleMania match.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray mentioned Cena’s heel didn’t click because The Rock didn’t stay involved in the storyline. “The reason why John Cena’s heel turn feels like it didn’t ‘live up to’ its expectations is because we didn’t get the conduit and the conjunction between The Rock,” Bully Ray said. “Without Rock being there, it leaves a giant hole in this whole thing as to why John and The Rock were in the same place at the same time at Elimination Chamber. It’s not like The Rock gave the throat slash to a hard camera or to a side of the arena of fans; he gave the throat slash to John Cena, basically implying that he was telling John Cena what to do.
“We don’t get The Rock. That lets everybody so down that John beating Cody is just like I don’t care. It doesn’t matter to me. You got your 17[th world title] because you left this massive piece of the puzzle out.”
