Charlotte Flair Reacts to John Cena Surpassing Ric Flair’s Title Record

Charlotte Flair says her father, Ric Flair, is proud of John Cena for breaking his record.

The Queen shared her thoughts after John Cena made history at WWE WrestleMania 41 by beating Cody Rhodes to win his 17th WWE World Heavyweight Championship. She mentioned that her father, Ric Flair, wasn’t upset about the record being broken. In fact, he congratulated John Cena right after the win.

Flair also praised Cena and said it was only a matter of time before he reached that milestone. During an interview with Rick Ucchino of The Takedown by Sports Illustrated, Charlotte believes Cena was the right person to break the record.

“Records are meant to be broken. I don’t wanna speak for my dad, but I think in this case I can, John was the guy to do it. I think he couldn’t be more proud of John. Even me seeing John Cena and what he means to the industry and what he means to me as a performer, I don’t think it was sad. The record stood the test of time for a very long time and it was finally broken.”

Charlotte Flair is already a 14-time WWE Women’s Champion and has spent 13 years in WWE. She said she didn’t think much about records early in her career. Now that she’s close to breaking her father’s record. The Queen sees it more as a personal goal.

“The first part of my career, I really didn’t think about it. Now that I’m so close, I don’t think for me it’s about tying or breaking John, but… could I have the opportunity to tie or break my father. The competition was with him, not necessarily tied to Cena.”
