Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: New WWE Women’s Tag Champs Crowned, TBS Title Match Added To Forbidden Door, EVE vs. The World

New WWE Women’s Tag Champs are crowned at WWE SummerSlam. Mercedes Moné will defend her TBS Championship at Forbidden Door. Members of the Pro-Wrestling EVE roster prepare to take on The World, and more.

New WWE Women’s Tag Champs Crowned At SummerSlam

WWE’s Biggest Party of the Summer turned out to be an extra special party for Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss.

During night one of WWE SummerSlam, Flair and Bliss challenged Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Though they don’t consider themselves to be friends, the “allies of convenience” proved to be successful as a unit, with Flair notably booting Rodriguez in the face. Meanwhile, Bliss laid out Perez with a Sister Abigail to secure the win and the tag titles.

For Flair, this victory marked the beginning of her second WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship reign. For Bliss, it kicked off her fourth. Gold aside, Flair credits Bliss for also bringing out a different side of her in-ring character, one that fans have rarely seen from “The Queen” before.

Elsewhere on night two, Tiffany Stratton successfully defended her WWE Women’s Championship against the 2025 Queen of the Ring, Jade Cargill. Naomi followed suit the next night when she defeated Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY to retain her WWE Women’s World Championship. Looking ahead, she will now defend it against SKY once more on next week’s episode of WWE Raw.

Rounding out the women’s wrestling action at SummerSlam, Becky Lynch successfully defended her Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Lyra Valkyria in a match with no countouts and no disqualifications. Ironically, Bayley proved to be the ultimate game changer as an inadvertent strike to Valkyria allowed Lynch to pick up the match-winning pinfall.

On the same weekend, Women’s United States Champion Giulia bested Zelina Vega in a hard-hitting battle on WWE SmackDown to retain her respective title.

TBS Title Match Added To Forbidden Door

After recently adding new titles to her collection, Mercedes Moné now pivots her attention to her longest-held title, the AEW TBS Championship.

At Forbidden Door, Moné will defend her TBS Title in a four-way bout against stars from AEW, CMLL, and STARDOM. On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Alex Windsor, Skye Blue, Queen Aminata, and Billie Starkz squared off to determine the other AEW representative in the title match. While Starkz arrived with ROH Women’s Champion Athena by her side, Windsor received support from AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm.

Toward the end of the four-way clash, Athena attempted to interfere on Starkz’s behalf. Storm, however, pulled her off the apron and fired off stomps to keep her grounded. At the same time, Windsor rolled up Starkz for the win and a spot in the TBS Championship match. Windsor later met face-to-face with Moné, who laid her out with a backstabber in the ring.

As of this writing, the remaining representatives from CMLL and STARDOM have yet to be determined. AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm will also be in action at Forbidden Door as she defends her title against Athena, the winner of the latest Women’s Casino Gauntlet.

EVE vs. The World

On August 24, talents from AEW, CMLL, NJPW, and STARDOM will take over the O2 Arena in London for the 2025 Forbidden Door event. The day before, some of those same AEW talents will take part in another cross-promotional event at London’s Big Penny Social.

The event, titled EVE vs. The World, will pit members of the Pro-Wrestling EVE roster against women from other companies, such as All Elite Wrestling. So far, three matches have been confirmed, including an EVE Championship bout pitting the Nyla Rose against the reigning titleholder Nightshade.

Also on the card, AEW stars Skye Blue and Julia Hart will take on former EVE Tag Team Champion Millie McKenzie and former EVE Champion Safire Reed. Recently, Reed challenged AEW’s Mercedes Mone for the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship.

Elsewhere, Nina Samuels will battle an unknown competitor, with the winner earning an EVE International Championship match on September 5. After dethroning Anita Vaughan at EVE Mean Grrrls, AEW’s Kris Statlander currently reigns as the promotion’s International Champion.

Other confirmed talents for EVE vs. The World include Anita Vaughan, Lucy Sky, Session Moth Martina, Rayne Leverkusen, Rhio, and Skye Smitson. Last weekend, Leverkusen partook in a WWE tryout amidst the SummerSlam festivities and earned herself the title of tryout MVP.
