Report: Why MJF’s Storyline With The Hurt Syndicate Was Cut Short

MJF being part of The Hurt Syndicate in AEW was supposed to go on longer than it ended up being.

On the May 21 episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF finally got the three thumbs up to become a member of The Hurt Syndicate. Two months later, on July 23, the writing was on the wall that Friedman was done with the faction. A backstage segment aired where Bobby Lashley shoved MJF into a locker and gave him the dreaded thumbs down. But apparently this wasn’t the original plan.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, MJF’s time in the Hurt Syndicate was supposed to “last much longer.”

Despite recent reported issues with MVP backstage at AEW, Meltzer states this change didn’t come from an MVP request and came from another member of the group. It’s not certain if Bobby Lashley or Shelton Benjamin requested the change.

It’s interesting to ponder where this storyline might have gone had it had the time to flesh itself out. But it appears we’ll never know now.

Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
