AEW Personality Reacts To Chris Jericho To WWE Rumors

If Chris Jericho is considering a return to WWE, Tony Schiavone doesn’t know about it.

Chris Jericho hasn’t wrestled in AEW since the company’s Dynasty on April 6, where he lost the Ring of Honor World Championship to Bandido. A few days later, Jericho walked out on the Learning Tree’s Big Bill and Bryan Keith, effectively writing him off TV. Jericho has not appeared on AEW television since then.

Jericho admitted in an interview that he would be open to a WWE return, but he’s still part of the AEW roster. An Instagram account called j.m.playground claimed Jericho’s AEW contract ends in December 2025 and suggested he was open to a potential WWE return. Jericho liked the post, which has led to speculation about his status with AEW.

That speculation has only increased, as F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer (via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter) said that those he’s spoken to within AEW don’t expect Jericho back. Instead, they believe he will return to WWE as a Royal Rumble surprise entrant. To the contrary, WWE sources believe Jericho will return when he’s free and clear to do so.

Tony Schiavone wants to know what’s next for Chris Jericho too

Chris Jericho has not commented publicly on his status. However, this week’s new episode of What Happened When? with Tony Schiavone saw the AEW announcer address Jericho’s absence. According to Schiavone, if there’s “smoke to that fire,” it’s not something he’s priy to.

“If there’s smoke to that fire, it has not been thrown my way,” Schiavone said (via The Sportster). I was backstage with Tony Khan most of this entire trip [for Forbidden Door]. Chris Jericho’s name was not mentioned. But that doesn’t mean anything.”

Schiavone said that AEW owner Tony Khan likes to keep things like that close to the vest. He later added that he also doesn’t ask about things like that, because he doesn’t want to get blamed if information leaks.

“Tony, a lot of times, he’ll get on the phone with that person and not tell anybody. He likes to keep things close to the vest. I don’t know. I really don’t know,” Schiavone said. “I’ve been wondering myself. I guess I should have asked, and then I would have known.”
