Charlotte Flair has become one of the biggest women’s wrestlers of all time, but her father, Ric Flair, initially didn’t want that for her.
WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair was a recent guest on Nightcap. When Shannon Sharpe brought up that her father, Ric Flair, tried to talk her out of becoming a professional wrestler, Charlotte confirmed that to be the case.
“He did because it’s a hard life,” Charlotte Flair said. “I mean, it’s a lot different now, but it’s just like the traveling. It’s non-stop. We don’t have an off-season; you’re away from your family, you’re away from your kids. It takes a different kind of breed to do it.”
When it was brought up that the road schedule now is a lot better than when her father was on top, Charlotte admitted that WWE is much more family-oriented now than they were in the past.
“It is definitely more family-oriented, I will say, but it’s still hard,” Charlotte Flair admitted. “It’s the travel. We don’t have an off-season. Unless you’re injured, you don’t have an off-season. So when I tore my knee, that was my first injury in eight years.”
Charlotte Flair puts over Seth Rollins
When asked if she ever has time to do other things she loves outside of wrestling, Flair said if there’s something you’re passionate about, you have to put time aside for it and took the opportunity to put over Seth Rollins’ new role with the NFL Network.
“Well, the business has evolved,” Charlotte Flair said. “Where before we were on the road four to five days a week, and now we don’t have as many live event shows that aren’t televised on the weekends. So really, we just have SmackDown, RAW, and if we’re overseas, we have, like, the bigger televised events, like Wrestlepalooza coming up September 20.
“So we do have more time, but I think you just have to — if there’s something that you’re really passionate about, you have to set time right aside for it. Like Seth Rollins now being on the NFL Network, that’s so great for him. Like he loves football, he’s able to find something else that he loves to do with wrestling. I know wrestling is his passion, but to see him doing that is really awesome.”
