This past Saturday evening was the AEW All Out pay-per-view. One of the marquee matches of the show was the four-way match for the Women’s World Championship. The then-champion Toni Storm wrestled Thekla, Jamie Hayter, and former TBS Champion Kris Statlander. Statlander managed to roll up Storm to pick the pinfall victory. The former Galaxy’s Favorite Alien captured the AEW Women’s World Title for the first time in her career.
Kris Statlander opened up about her victory at the Post-show Media Scrum following AEW All Out. She shared that finally being able to achieve this milestone in her career, makes all her struggles and injuries worth it.
“It’s been sort of a very up and down journey for me and I feel like there were so many opportunities that maybe I could have had the chance to be the first at early on, but I was derailed by my knee injury. So, I kept like, ‘Oh, maybe I’ll come back and maybe I’ll be the first person to do this.’
“And then, I get injured and then time passes by and other people step up and take that position for you … to finally have something to my name to be like I’m the first ever to do this, it just makes all those injuries, all the hard times, all the ups and downs so worth it because I worked so unbelievably hard to be in this position that I’m at today. And finally just to have that title means more than I could ever imagine,” Kris Statlander said. [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
It is also to be noted that Statlander is the first person in AEW to defeat the inaugural AEW TBS Champion, Jade Cargill.
What are your thoughts on Statlander becoming the new AEW Women’s World Champion?
