Mike Santana wants everyone to know that the TNA roster wasn’t working when it came to voicing their displeasure over the WWE NXT roster holding their titles.
TNA World Heavyweight Champion Mike Santana was a recent guest on No-Contest Wrestling. When asked what the vibe was in the TNA locker room when wrestlers from WWE NXT kept winning their titles, Santana didn’t sugarcoat his response.
“They definitely weren’t jokes,” Mike Santana revealed. “Everybody was straightforward and pissed off. Especially the original core guys like me, Eddie Edwards, Moose, Kazarian. We were like, ‘Yo, we have to change this.’ You don’t like to listen to what other people are saying, but that kind of gets to you.
“I feel like the best thing that came out of it was it motivated everybody. The fire that was lit backstage was, ‘We ain’t popping off like this. This is not happening.’ We all banded together and were like, ‘We have to do something about it.’ That’s when everything started to kick off and we started making more moves.
“I remember when I first went to NXT, I made it very known, in Trick’s face, ‘We ain’t living like this.’ I’m glad I was the one to do it. It just motivated the hell out of everybody. I think it did some good.” [H/T: Fightful]
TNA has lost major momentum since Bound For Glory
Mike Santana has yet to appear on TNA programming as World Champion since the company hasn’t hosted an episode of iMPACT since Bound for Glory. This has caused the company to lose significant momentum that it had been building in recent months due to its ongoing partnership with WWE NXT.
It will be interesting to see if TNA can regain its footing when the weekly TV returns on November 13 from Full Sail University.
