LA Knight believes defeating John Cena will make him the greatest of all time.
LA Knight defeated Jey Uso in the semi-finals of the Last Time is Now Tournament on this week’s episode of WWE RAW and has booked a showdown with former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in the finals this Friday on SmackDown. The winner will go on to become John Cena’s final opponent at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
Following his victory, LA Knight spoke with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant on RAW Recap. He said he has the utmost respect for John Cena and everything he has accomplished. However, he believes he has what it takes to beat the 17-time WWE Champion. And if he pulls it off, Knight said it would make him the greatest of all time.
“I got all the respect in the world for John Cena and everything he’s done,” LA Knight began. “Greatest of all time, yeah, he might be. And if that’s the case, if that’s what we’re saying here, my thought is, at first I thought I’m not really a dream match guy. I don’t care about that. I’m here to make money, I’m here to win championships, if I’m honest.
“Let me just be 100% transparent with you. At the same time, I appreciate everything that’s happened. I appreciate the fact that when I go out there, everybody jumps out of their seats and they say, ‘Yeah.’ And I appreciate the hell out of that.
“But at the same time, I got to look at this like a business because that’s what it is. And so for me, it’s a matter of fact that John Cena, greatest of all time, and if I end up in that ring with him, and I get the 123, or who knows, I’m not a submission guy, but if I make the guy submit, that makes me the greatest of all time. But I got to be moving in that direction, wouldn’t you say? That’s where my head is.”
LA Knight isn’t looking past Gunther
Speaking further, LA Knight addressed his next opponent, Gunther. He talked about people considering Gunther as an unstoppable force and claimed that he, too, can be ruthless in the ring. He said he proved everyone who doubted him wrong over the years.
However, LA Knight noted that he’s not going to look past Gunther and that he’s trying to focus on the moment before he can think about becoming John Cena’s final opponent.
