Bray Wyatt hoped to main event WrestleMania with CM Punk.
CM Punk looked back at his various looks over the years in WWE’s Break It Down series on YouTube. Reacting to his look as the leader of the New Nexus back in 2011, Punk recalled a conversation with the late Bray Wyatt.
Bray Wyatt was part of CM Punk’s Nexus as Husky Harris, but WWE wrote him off the storyline and sent him back to FCW. Punk remembered Wyatt telling him that he’d go back to developmental and figure things out, and when he comes back, they’d main event WrestleMania one day.
“2011, this is a big year. Here I am as the leader of Nexus, and I am flanked by two, I mean, are they second/third-generation wrestlers? I know Hennig (Curtis Axel) is, and my old friend Hulky Harris, AKA Bray Wyatt.
“What’s funny about this is, shortly after the formation of this, we broke up. I remember a conversation, you know, I was upset for Bray because he was being sent back down to developmental. He was in high spirits, and he said to me, ‘Hey, don’t worry, man,’ he’s like, ‘I’m gonna go back down there, I’m gonna figure myself out, and I’m gonna come back up here and someday me and you, we’re gonna main event WrestleMania, and I thought that was really cool,” CM Punk said.
Unfortunately, CM Punk had only a few matches against Bray Wyatt after he returned with the cult leader gimmick. Punk ended up leaving WWE in 2014 and returned to the company in November 2023, three months after Wyatt’s passing.
