How does Tony Khan feel about the home of WWE RAW being the winning bidder to eventually purchase Warner Bros. Discovery?
All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan recently took part in the ROH Final Battle Media Scrum. When asked for his thoughts on Netflix, the home of WWE RAW, winning the bid to purchase WBD, Khan said that while it’s too early to comment on the situation, he noted his great partnership with WBD and added that Netflix is a partner of the NFL, with whom he has worked closely in recent years.
“First of all, it’s early to comment on anything that’s pending,” Tony Khan began. “Without getting into anything that has yet to be determined, I just want to say we have a great partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, and it will continue for many years to come.
“We have years left on our remaining agreement with TBS and HBO Max. I’m really proud of what we’ve built, and I think it’s going to be for a long time to come. It’s going to be like this with Warner Bros. Discovery before anything is settled out. I’m very excited for the future. I think we have great partnerships.
“What I can say, from the things that are public knowledge, all of the bidders on Warner Bros. Discovery are media partners of the National Football League, and great media partners of ours. Everybody who has been in the running for this is somebody we work with on the NFL, so I have a lot of respect for all of them.”
AEW will continue to air on TBS, TNT, and HBO Max for the foreseeable future
Khan ended his statement, noting he only has positive things to say about Netflix, and made a very important reminder that AEW will continue to air on TBS, TNT, and HBO Max through the end of 2027, going into 2028.
“We work closely with all three bidders in the mix, and we’ll see what happens,” Tony Khan continued. “I have only positive things to say about Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery. I can tell you for sure, at least until the very end of 2027, going into 2028, we’re going to be here for years and years to come, over two more years with AEW on TBS, TNT, and HBO Max. I’m very excited about it.” [H/T: Fightful]
What Netflix’s eventual purchase of WBD could mean for AEW
It’s worth noting that Netflix isn’t interested in the television stations currently owned by WBD, and they intend to split the company into two before the Netflix acquisition becomes official.
As of this writing, Netflix also intends to keep HBO Max as a separate entity from their own streaming service, which means AEW should continue to stream on the platform for the duration of their current contract with WBD.
Netflix’s purchase of Warner Bros is at least a year away, if not longer. There’s also a chance this acquisition could be blocked, which would leave Netflix owing WBD the sum of $5 billion if this sale ends up falling through.
