Rob Van Dam Bonded With Bret Hart After Learning He Smoked Weed

Rob Van Dam recently explained how he became closer friends with WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, and it all started when he learned The Hitman also smoked weed.

On his podcast 1 of a Kind with RVD, Van Dam was asked if he had ever smoked with Bret. RVD replied, “So yes. And, I guess, you know, I mean, I enjoy hanging out with him. He’s not just telling like one joke after another, you know, but, he’s, you know, when he’s telling stories, he’s entertaining. He’s always been super cool. That was what I bonded with him over, actually, was, when I learned that he likes to smoke, and we had a mutual friend who’s a wrestling promoter in San Jose named Kirk White.”

He added that whenever they had the chance at conventions, they would smoke together. He even filmed an episode of RVD TV with Bret in a hotel room. “We definitely smoked,” he said, though he couldn’t remember if it was on camera yet because he wasn’t filming himself smoking at the time.

RVD also talked about a friend named Lou Dog, known for bringing extremely strong weed, noting that “you could smell his buds in the whole building.” Returning to his bond with The Hitman, RVD said their friendship grew so much that Bret even offered him his home in Hawaii to stay in.

He described staying at Bret’s house as a peaceful, unforgettable experience, smoking on the porch and watching animals pass through the yard every day. “That was my TV for days—just nature and weed. It was amazing.”

He always appreciated how genuine and honest The Hitman was. “Bret’s definitely a good guy, good friend, and, um, you know, I definitely got Brett’s back. And I think he’s being more honest than bitter,”

RVD also addressed Bret Hart’s recent comments that sparked major fan reactions. He added Hart’s is simply honest and unfiltered. RVD said, “He doesn’t give a f*ck if you judge him. He just tells it like it is.”
