AEW reportedly has some big plans in store for Kenny Omega.
Omega teamed with The Young Bucks against The Don Callis Family’s Hechicero, Konosuke Takeshita, and Kazuchika Okada on AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash last week. The match ended with The Elite picking up the win, keeping their $1 million prize in the process.
A backstage interview from the match aired on AEW Dynamite this week. The Young Bucks told Lexi Nair that they will not be medically cleared to compete for the remainder of the year, while Kenny Omega teased a potential major program.
According to Fightful’s AEW Worlds End scoop threads (via Fightful Select), the backstage interview segment involving Omega hinted at a possible return of “The Cleaner” to the world title picture.
“There was a segment on AEW this week where Kenny Omega mentioned that he had to take care of some things. We’re told this specifically was to reference him possibly being in the world title scene soon.”
Kenny Omega is a former one-time AEW World Champion. He defeated Jon Moxley at Winter Is Coming 2020 to capture the title and held it for more than 340 days before dropping it to “Hangman” Adam Page at Full Gear 2021.
Speaking of Page, “Hangman” Adam Page is set to challenge for the AEW World Championship in a four-way match also featuring MJF, Swerve Strickland, and reigning champion Samoa Joe at Worlds End later tonight.
