AEW‘s Kenny Omega called out a disrespectful fan for comparing Will Ospreay to late political activist Charlie Kirk.
The fan took to X/Twitter to post, “Will Ospreay is as bad on the mic as Charlie Kirk, but can’t sell the neck as well as he did.” However, reigning AEW World Champion Kenny Omega didn’t take too kindly to the comment and shot back at him.
“What the f**k is wrong with you? It isn’t hard to try having some class,” Omega said.
Kenny Omega also stressed keeping dark humor separate from real pain, as Ospreay continues to perform in the ring while still recovering from ongoing neck issues.
“A dear friend battles back from a career threatening injury, is no doubt still fighting pain today, and is somehow mocked and compared to a dude that was murdered. I get that a joke is a joke but these things should really be kept separate in my opinion,” Omega replied.
Kenny Omega later offered an apology and explained his initial reaction
However, Omega later apologized for his reply, acknowledging his own past near-death experience and knowledge of Ospreay’s behind-the-scenes work as the reasons for his strong reaction.
“Please extend my apologies, genuinely. Perhaps I’ve become too sensitive after my own brush with death. I also know of Will’s efforts behind the scenes more than most so it was sad to see such a harsh comparison,” Omega wrote.
Kenny Omega will defend his AEW World Championship against TNT Champion Kevin Knight at the upcoming Redemption pay-per-view. The winner of that match will go on to defend the world title against Will Ospreay at All In next month.
