Rey Mysterio was out in rare form this week.
Across his 36-year in-ring career, Rey Mysterio has held his mask closely to his chest as it remains an important part of his wrestling identity. On rare occasion, though, Mysterio has taken it off to show the world his real face.
One of those occasions was Monday, December 29 when WWE stars, including Mysterio, made their way inside Orlando, Florida’s Kia Center for WWE Raw. While heading into the venue, Mysterio stopped to meet several fans, one of which later shared a selfie of themselves standing beside a bare-faced Mysterio in glasses.
The same fan also posted images of their encounters with former WWE Women’s World Champion IYO SKY, former Women’s Champion Bayley, and R-Truth, the latter of whom went on to wrestle Gunther on Raw.
Once Raw went live on Netflix, fans saw Mysterio return to his usual form, lucha mask and all. With his usual ensemble, Mysterio then wrestled Austin Theory, the newest member of The Vision, in singles competition.
For that match, Mysterio donned a black and pink mask and ring gear. Meanwhile, Theory sported his new shaved head, while also debuting a new, more rock-centric theme song. Mysterio ultimately emerged victorious over Theory via disqualification after Logan Paul struck him from mid-air. When Theory and Paul then attacked Mysterio after the bell, a returning Penta rushed down to the ring to even the odds for the WWE Hall of Famer.
