MJF‘s AEW World Championship celebration took a wrong turn tonight, with several stars showing up as possible contenders for the belt.
During Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, a New Year’s Smash, MJF opened the show with his championship inauguration. The star looked ready to gloat, but was pretty quickly interrupted.
After just a few minutes of bragging about his title win and mocking everyone he beat. It was then that Kenny Omega appeared on the screen. He said that MJF made him feel like the old Omega, and wonders what if he could become the champion once again. Omega then pondered what if they met in the ring tonight, or next week. No matter when, Omega said, MJF would be seeing “a lot more” of him down the line.
MJF didn’t seem to care much about the interruption. The star quickly mocked the fans for chanting his name, but more chaos happened. It was then that Adam Page and Swerve Strickland’s music hit. The two stars came down to the ring from different sides of the crowd, but were held back by security. MJF called them both losers, and said that if they can stack some wins again, they can face him.
With that, MJF quickly ran out of the ring as Page and Swerve began breaking free and attacking the security. The duo cleaned the ring of security, and then Page took the mic and said he plans on strangling MJF when he gets his hand on him. Strickland also took a mic, and said MJF better hope Page gets to him first, as the hunt is officially in.
That wasn’t all, though. Shortly after, Samoa Joe and The Opps appeared onscreen. Joe said that Page and Swerve deserve nothing, and that Joe is the rightful #1 contender to the belt. He then said that if Page and Strickland continue interfering, he’ll take care of them.
