Backstage Update On Triple H Changing Direction Of WWE WrestleMania 42 Card — Report

Triple H reportedly decided to change the direction of the WWE WrestleMania 42 card recently, but why did this happen?

Last week, Triple H made the shocking decision to have Drew McIntyre defeat Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship right as the road to WrestleMania 42 is about to begin. In doing so, this caused the direction of the company’s biggest show of the year to change. We now have more information about what Triple H’s mindset was behind this pivot.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the WWE Title change and the shift in plans for WrestleMania 42 occurred 48 hours before last week’s episode of SmackDown.

Meltzer reports that he was told Triple H took another look at the road to WrestleMania plans and determined that a third match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns in four years would lead to audience fatigue.

This was around the same time that Rhodes pitched to Hunter that it might be more valuable to WWE right now to have him chasing instead of defending.

Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
