CM Punk was in tears seeing the Chicago Cubs’ 2016 World Series win. His wife, AJ Lee, was a little preoccupied during the monumental celebration.
Ahead of the 2026 WWE Elimination Chamber PLE, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk appeared on ESPN Get Up alongside his wife and former Divas Champion AJ Lee. During the conversation, he named his favorite Chicago sports duos.
When they played a clip of Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant during the 2016 World Series, CM Punk revealed he and AJ Lee were at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, when the Chicago Cubs won the series. He noted that while he was crying his eyes out watching the scenes unfold, his wife was catching Pokémon on her phone, probably referring to her playing Pokémon Go, which was released that year.
“Cubs win! I was there, and so was my wife. She was catching Pokémon on her phone, and I was crying my eyes out watching this scene right here,” CM Punk said.
The Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series in a dramatic 7-game series against the Cleveland Indians, overcoming a 3-1 series deficit. This was their first championship since 1908, ending a 108-year drought.
CM Punk’s top five Chicago sports duos included: Mike Ditka and Buddy Ryan, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, and Rizzo and Bryant.
CM Punk will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor at Elimination Chamber this Saturday. The event will emanate from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and will be the first WWE event to take place at the building since SummerSlam 1994.
