Kane Reveals Why He Unmasked In WWE (And Who Pitched It)

Kane recently opened up about his infamous unmasking in 2003 and how it came to be.

Speaking during a recent appearance at River City Wrestling Con (via SE Scoops), Glenn Jacobs opened up about his unmasking. According to him, the idea was actually his own, and not Vince McMahon’s.

“It was my idea. I talked to Vince about it. Vince liked it—probably not so much for the reasons from my perspective,” Jacobs said. Jacobs went on to say that he was reaching a peak with the mask, and thought that removing it would allow him to be a bit less constrained and allow him to do more in the future.

“My perspective was as a performer, and yeah, I felt that being under the mask—I don’t want to say run its course because, you know, it was a really cool character and it still worked—but there were constraints and limitations that it put on me,” said Jacobs. “Obviously, the biggest one is I couldn’t use my face to show people emotion, which is one of the most important things.”

Of course, Jacobs’ Kane would go on to have a legendary career in the ring with or without the mask. The former star is now serving as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.
