Becky Lynch has defeated AJ Lee to become the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion at WWE WrestleMania 42 Night 1.
Having tapped out to AJ Lee three times since the latter’s WWE return last year, Becky Lynch walked into WrestleMania 42 with a clear disadvantage. However, Lynch was careful not to let that happen again by trying to prevent Lee from locking her in the Black Widow submission throughout the match.
Becky Lynch also confronted referee Jessika Carr before the match, as she had continuously accused the official of bias over the past months. They had a few arguments during the contest, including Carr stopping Lynch from exposing the top turnbuckle and calling her insane.
Later in the match, Becky Lynch got on Jessika Carr’s face after she stopped her from stomping on AJ Lee in the corner with a count. The referee then pushed back after Lynch shoved her in the middle of the ring. The Man tried to attack Carr, but the latter ducked at the last moment, allowing Lee to hit Lynch with a Manhandle Slam for a near fall.
The final moments of the match saw AJ Lee locking Becky Lynch in the Black Widow, but the latter grabbed Lee’s hair to force her to release the hold. Lynch then exposed the turnbuckle while the referee was distracted. She then pulled Jessika Carr between her and Lee, slammed the latter into the exposed turnbuckle, and performed the Manhandle Slam to get the pin.
With the win, Becky Lynch has defeated AJ Lee for the first time and became a three-time WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
