LA Knight has opened up about a frustrating moment in his WWE career. He revealed that plans for him to appear at WrestleMania 39 were reportedly canceled just days before the event.
Speaking on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Knight recalled being told for months to promote WrestleMania’s return to Los Angeles. Nevertheless, he discovered at the eleventh hour that whatever WWE had planned for him was no longer happening.
While exact details remain unclear, the revelation sheds new light on one of the most talked-about omissions from WrestleMania 39.
LA Knight details last-minute WrestleMania 39 cancellation
Knight explained that WWE had assured him something was being prepared for the show, prompting him to make plans for family members to attend.
“The year before we were in LA and I was told to talk about WrestleMania in LA ’cause we’re going to come up with something for you and I was like awesome,” Knight said.
The former United States Champion added that despite never being told exactly what the segment would involve, he believed creative plans were in motion.
“I got tickets for my family to fly out there and everything. I didn’t know what I was going to do. They still hadn’t told me what it was going to be but they were like we’re going to put something together for you.”
However, Knight said the situation changed during WrestleMania week.
“And a Wednesday before they’re like, ‘Oh, it got scrapped.’ And I’m like… no idea. Still to this day.”
Knight admitted he still doesn’t know precisely what was planned. “For all I know, they were ribbing me the whole time. I don’t think they were, but it sounded like there was something in the works.”
According to reports at the time, Knight had been penciled in for an on-screen segment involving Bobby Lashley after Lashley’s original WrestleMania plans changed. Ultimately, the segment was dropped, and Knight did not appear on either night of the event.
For Knight, WrestleMania 39 became a case of plans being pinned before they ever reached the ring.
