Former WWE star Simone Johnson/Ava explains her decision to leave the company and why she has no regrets.
During her recent appearance on The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi, Simone Johnson, former NXT General Manager and The Rock’s daughter, revealed why she chose to leave WWE earlier this year. She announced on January 30 that she chose not to renew her contract.
Simone Johnson shared that there’s no particular reason for her decision to leave WWE. She’s grateful for her time with the promotion, but said that after nearly six years, she felt it was time for something new. Johnson stated she has no regrets and that she’s very happy now.
“There wasn’t one particular thing, unfortunately. It was like a lot of things and had been something that was on my mind for a while. I’m so grateful for my time at WWE. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I did. I got to live out the dream. But I think it was time for something new,” Simone Johnson said. It was time for something different, and I really don’t regret leaving, and I’m really happy now.”
Booker T admits he didn’t see Simone Johnson leaving WWE NXT
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T said that Simone Johnson was an excellent fit as NXT General Manager. He mentioned that he hadn’t heard any rumors about her leaving and that her departure caught him completely by surprise.
“Ava, daughter of The Rock of course, she stepped down from being General Manager of NXT and I’m tell you she I thought she had been doing a hell of a job. I really did. I thought she fit that role very very well and as a young person being a part of such a young group of guys doing big things and being able to have the finger on the pulse as far as kind of like knowing what young people may want perhaps maybe what young people may need,” he said about Simone Johnson.
“I left work last week and I didn’t know anything about it. I didn’t hear any rumors. I didn’t feel any rumblings or anything like that as far as hey maybe Ava’s gonna take a step back and move on into a different direction.”
“I didn’t but then again this business is very very unpredictable. It really is. You could be here today and pretty much gone tomorrow. I get it. Totally understand it. Just didn’t see this one coming. But that’s the business.” [H/T: wrestlingnews.co]
