Sheamus Bids Emotional Farewell to WWE

Sheamus posts an emotional goodbye to WWE after nearly two decades with the promotion.

Reports from earlier this week indicated that four-time world champion Sheamus is leaving the promotion. He reportedly decided to leave after the company requested him to take a significant pay cut. His exit shocked fans and wrestling personalities, who believed the Celtic Warrior would be a WWE lifer.

Reports also revealed that a high-ranking WWE official fought to keep Sheamus in the company and pushed TKO to retain him. However, after Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, he became the next long-tenured superstar to leave the promotion after refusing a pay cut.

Now, Sheamus, who had previously changed his social bios to reflect his real name, posted an emotional message on X/Twitter, officially bidding farewell to WWE.

“Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Banger after Burger after Banger after Banger after Banger after [broken heart emoji] [sad face emoji] slán mo WWE chairde (goodbye my WWE friends). S. Farrelly,” Sheamus wrote.

AEW talent reportedly unhappy about a potential Sheamus signing

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez revealed that he spoke with several AEW talent about Sheamus signing with the promotion. However, he noted that most of them didn’t like the idea because the company already has a stacked roster with some wrestlers struggling to secure TV time.

“I did talk to a lot of people today in AEW who were like, ‘Are we really gonna take this guy?’ Let me make this abundantly clear — everybody I talked to, to a person, was like, ‘I really like Sheamus. I really like him.’

“The basic gist of it is: ‘There are so many people under contract, and there are so many people that already can’t even get on TV. And we’re gonna hire another 48-year-old?’

“It was just sort of like, ‘Here comes another one.’ Because The New Day’s probably coming in. Sheamus would be coming in. And that’s three more slots that people who have been there for a long time or who should be on the way up, they’re gonna be iced out again. People weren’t really thrilled about that idea.”
