PJ Black Shares His ‘Overwhelming’ Favorite WrestleMania Moment

The Watch List takes a look at what matches you should be watching and they come recommended by today’s professional wrestling stars.

WrestleZone recently spoke with PJ Black, who was asked if he had a favorite WrestleMania memory. Black chose one from WrestleMania 27 because it was the first time his mother saw him wrestle in person.

“So as a kid, I always wanted to be a wrestler. When I was eight, I decided that I was going to be a full-time pro wrestler. My mom was like, ‘I don’t know. No one from South Africa has ever made it.’ And I was like, ‘Well, cool,’ and I’ll be the first. So my mom didn’t have a lot of confidence in me doing this,” he explained. “The first time she actually saw me perform live was at WrestleMania [27] in Atlanta. Me and Heath [Slater] happened to be the tag champs, so that was kind of cool for me.”

“So my mom came all the way from South Africa. First time on a on a plane, by the way, to see me work for the first time. And it was at WrestleMania, so that was kind of cool. She was so overwhelmed,” he noted. “She was like, ‘Wow, I didn’t know wrestling was this big, you know?'”

He had some more good memories competing as Justin Gabriel, and said some of his work in Ring Of Honor as PJ Black stood out as well.

“Justin Gabriel, one of my good accomplishments was I remember when Edge retired as the World Heavyweight Champion, I was the last guy to defeat him on TV. Obviously now he’s back, so that record has been nullified. But still, it was a good little run,” he noted.

“Everything that I’ve done in ROH as PJ Black I think was pretty cool. The two really good matches I had with Bandido, who was fantastic, [it’s] there somewhere on YouTube. If you guys want to check that out on HonorClub or whatever, but they are on YouTube. Those were really, really cool, he added. “Me and Flip [Gordon] started doing some cool fun stuff towards the end of the ROH thing before it kind of like collapsed and then rebranded.”
