McKenzie Mitchell Likes Taking Fashion Risks, Names Dua Lipa, Beyonce As Inspirations

McKenzie Mitchell reveals her top fashion influences.

Former WWE backstage interviewer McKenzie Mitchell recently cited Beyonce as one of her dream interview guests from the music industry. Speaking with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Mitchell also named the Grammy Award-winning singer as one of her fashion influences. In addition to Beyonce, Mitchell pointed to three other musical figures as inspirations for her fashion style.

“Dua Lipa, 100%. She is my favorite. She’s my favorite musician. I love her in general. I think she’s so great, and her performance. If I could get Headline [my jewelry collection] on her, I would love to get Headline on Dua Lipa. Kacey Musgraves and Kelsea Ballerini [are some more influences].

“And let me just tell you, if you haven’t seen it, go see Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour in theaters. I went with a couple of friends and it was game-changing. I was like, ‘Wow, I didn’t realize how inspiring and how involved she is in her tour.’ It was insane. So, Beyonce is another inspiration I have.”

Being Bold In Her Fashion

When McKenzie Mitchell launched her jewelry business — Headline by MM — in June 2023, she emphasized the importance of not only standing out, but also being bold and brave. Within that same spirit, Mitchell was asked to identify the boldest fashion choice she’s ever made.

“I can talk about an experience that I had. I think it was [NXT] Deadline [2022], I wore a really big fluffy dress. It was made of tulle, and it was like a cream color. So many people didn’t know how to respond to me,” Mitchell said. “A lot of men didn’t know how to say, ‘Oh, I just like your dress.’ They said, ‘Well, don’t you look like a Christmas present’ or ‘Oh, this is an interesting choice.'”

“I don’t know, I like to take risks in my fashion because I think if you’re not taking a risk, then you’re not even trying. So I like to put together different pieces that may not go together, but you would be like, ‘Oh, I would have never picked that on my closet and put two and two together.’ So I think that the tulle dress was one because I got a lot of response from people. Women loved it. Men were just confused and didn’t know how to respond.”

Mitchell went on to describe another standout piece that she wore at another WWE pay-per-view event.

“I don’t know if it’s a risk exactly or one that I’ve taken that’s been like, will this work or will this not? I’ve taken some of my family’s dresses, and it was my aunt’s homecoming dress. I don’t remember what the pay-per-view was exactly, but it’s like a hot pink dress that’s strapless, that had a bunch of different colors and sequins on it. I got to wear it for a pay-per-view, but it was my aunt’s homecoming dress from the 1990s. Then I had it taken in and then re-wore it for something. I think it’s really special to bring back fashion because what’s old can be new again,” Mitchell said.
