Fallyn Grey recounts the praise she received during her WWE tryout.
In March, WWE revealed AWF Women’s Champion Fallyn Grey as one of the newest talents signed to its ID program. Since then, Grey has notably competed at the WWE ID Showcase in Las Vegas and began appearing on WWE EVOLVE as Veronica Haven.
During an interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Grey looked back on the moment that ultimately paved the way for these opportunities: a tryout at the WWE Performance Center.
As seen on social media, a number of WWE executives, talents, and legends contributed to the tryout experience. From Grey’s perspective, though, two stood above the rest.
“I love Shawn Michaels,” she said. “So the fact that I got to see him just in the flesh, and then also when I was doing my promo. I was saying it, I memorized the promo. I still got to work on my wrestling skills, but the promos, since I ended up since I was little, I got that. So I was very confident. I was looking around. Then I see the freaking ‘Heartbreak Kid’ looking at my paper and then [nodding]. I was like, “Yes!” It was so crazy. So seeing him there definitely got my heart pumping.”
X-Pac praised Grey’s selling ability
Praise for Grey didn’t stop with Shawn Michaels. In fact, it continued through another WWE Hall of Famer and fellow D-Generation X member, Sean ‘X-Pac’ Waltman.
“He walked by and they said, ‘Oh, look, it’s X-Pac,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, cool. Super casual. Great. Hi,'” Grey recalled. “They were just like ‘X-Pac, do you have anything any notes or anything you want to say after seeing all those matches?’ He was kind of in a hurry, but he goes, ‘Everything was really great. You, what’s your name?’ And he points at me, and I was like, ‘I’m Grey, like the color.’ He’s like ‘Yeah, you, hell of a seller. Really good selling. Keep that energy. People are scared to save their energy until the end of the match because that’s where all the big moves come out. They forget to use that energy in the beginning to make it meaningful, to make the ending mean that much more. So yeah, hell of a seller. Other than that, everybody did really good.’ Then he walked out and I was like ‘Wow.'”
Now as a member of WWE ID, Grey noted that she can further learn from X-Pac due to his status as a mentor in the program. And to no surprise, she’s already excited for it.
“I get to ask him for advice, the 1-2-3 Kid, that’s super cool,” she said.
