The United States Championship hasn’t been in a great place since 2017. In fact, you could argue that John Cena‘s 2015 runs with the United States Championship (especially the first one) were the peak reigns of the United States Championship in the 2010s. There was no other reign that made the title feel as prestigious as it was then.

We had a few decent reigns since then, but overall, the title just hasn’t lived up to its previous glory. If you look back, it all started somewhere around 2017. For one, AJ Styles and Kevin Owens kept exchanging the United States title, and then we had short reigns from Baron Corbin, a two-day reign for Dolph Ziggler (which we never even got any explanations about), and then more short-lived reigns from Bobby Roode, Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal. Jeff Hardy and Shinsuke Nakamura would be the only ones to hold it for relatively long periods of time, but even then, the title was treated as an afterthought.

With the title then flip-flopping from Nakamura, Rusev and R-Truth, the United States title continues to feel like an afterthought, and it shouldn’t be that way. Hopefully, WWE can bring back prestige to the title, and here are a few ways how.
