Stars In Progress…Who Goes Up & Down This Week?

The Miz & R-Truth

A Step Up That's Much Deserved

The fact that WWE has continued to make R-Truth relevant is worth this praise alone, but the unlikely pairing of Truth and Miz puts it over the top for me.   These two have played off of one another exceptionally and their comedic styles are different enough that they mesh well together.

They were "fired" this past week on Raw and in the real world, that would definitely be cause for a major step down.  However, in wrestling, it could lead to bigger and better things.  Rumors and speculations are running wild online right now as to what their releases mean going forward.  Most seem to think they will return as members of some sort of new faction (I've even heard the nWo name thrown around a few circles), potentially led by Vince, or Nash, or Johnny…no one knows for sure, but everyone thinks they know best.

I have harped on WWE quite a bit lately for making a mess out of the Punk/HHH/Nash angle and losing most of the momentum they had coming out of SummerSlam.  I think things will come full circle in the next few weeks and the direction going into Survivor Series will become very evident.  It's about time!

The fact that Miz and Truth might be in the middle of it makes me happy.  Nick Paglino said to me on this past week's edition of the Voice of Wrestling (archive available on VOWLive.com) that WWE needs to put more people in the main event mix.  Why can't there be more contenders involved with the World Title picture (both of them)?  I agree.  The triple-threat match at Hell in a Cell for the WWE Championship seems to indicate WWE might be thinking the same thing.

The Miz and R-Truth will not be winning the WWE Championship anytime soon, but they can still be major players each and every week on Raw.  Joining them together was the first step.  Putting them in a credible group that might end up becoming a major, umbrella storyline in the WWE going forward is step number two.  I guess I shouldn't speak too soon because it also depends on who the other members of the group will be.  The Miz should be the mouthpiece of the group – the focal point.  Truth would be the funny sidekick.  Nash could be the experience leader.  Vince – the mastermind.  Barrett – the young, big grunt worker.  Maybe Dolph?  McIntyre?  Who knows, but the possibilities are definitely there and I'm looking forward to how this thing plays out.

I'm sure Miz and Truth are looking forward to it as well.
