WrestleZone’s Top Ten: WWE Vengeance Matches

Number 7: Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit for the vacant United States Championship: Denver, Colorado, 2003

With the US Championship Finals, we got to see a classic bout between Benoit and Guerrero. Benoit, in the weeks prior, defeated Rhyno and Matt Hardy, while Guerrero would beat Ultimo Dragon and Billy Gunn. In Denver, this was the opening contest, one that would be heavily contested. Back and forth for 22 minutes showed us why these two men were two of the greatest in ring performers in the WWE. When the referee was knocked out, Rhyno would come out for revenge, Spear Benoit and give Guerrero the upper hand. He would connect on a Frog Splash onto Benoit to win the vacant United States Championship. Funny that these two opening contest superstars would both become World Champions, both holding their respected titles after WrestleMania 20 in Madison Square Garden. The show stealer in 2003 at the Pepsi Center, Benoit and Guerrero would give fans a five star performance.
