Bret Hart

What’s Bothering Me: Cesaro/IWC, Bret Hart Shoots, Swagger

Nick Paglino returns live to the Voice of Wrestling tonight, starting at 6:30/e. We’ll discuss Brock’s return, the “Hot Topics of the Week”, and much more. I’ll then be back with Adam Gorzelsky, immediately following Raw, for VOW Reaction. Visit VOWLive.com for the best in pro wrestling radio, plus the live chat during the shows.

Now, on to a few things bothering me this week in pro wrestling:

Growing up, I was a huge Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart fan. I gave the slight edge to HBK, however. He was more entertaining all around and always pulled more emotion out of me.

Now that I’m older, Shawn goes down as the greatest ever in my book. Bret really doesn’t even come close.

I’d like to think my opinion is purely from a business standpoint, and not personal, but I’m not sure I can say that anymore. The more I see or hear from Bret Hart these days, the less I want to.

I hate that I feel that way. There’s no denying Bret’s passion and love for the pro wrestling business, and to have his career cut short in such fashion, I’m sure I would be pretty bitter about it too. But there’s only so much one can take, even from the wounded.

Bret’s latest shoot comments on HHH are laughable at best. “I wouldn’t put him in the top 1,000 greatest wrestlers,” Bret told Arda Ocal in a short interview over the weekend. How is anyone supposed to take that seriously?

Does Bret really mean the words he’s spewing? Is he exaggerating simply to illustrate his point further? Or is he flat-out lying through his teeth because he hold some sort of personal resentment toward Vince’s son-in-law? I’m not sure it really matters which is true when the opinion in question is such utter BS.

I still respect Bret’s work and all he accomplished during a career that was cut short without his consent, but the more I hear him talk, I’m afraid my overall feelings toward him are beginning to turn mostly negative.
