Roman Reigns vs. The Big Show
Roman Reigns and Big Show put on a pretty good match at Extreme Rules. It did not take long for both men to take it to the outside, as Roman Reigns threw Show into the barricade and vice versa. Roman was able to hit a Superman relatively early in the match. Big Show would chokeslam Reigns through two tables, which was a really effective spot.
As the match went on, it became a spot fest. It is understandable though, given the premise of the match. Reigns connected with a Spear through the barricades. Show is standing up on the steps and Roman Reigns spears him over one table and through the Spanish commentary table. Big Show makes the count again and Reigns throws the other commentary table on Show to pick up the win.
“Better than I expected.” That is my thought after this match, even though I could have cared less about this build. It is simple to see that WWE still thinks Big Show is a viable opponent for a young guy like Roman Reigns. The match was entertaining and paced really well. I just think about how many times we have seen these guys over the past 4 months and nothing has changed for either of them. Big Show won at Mania, Roman Reigns lost. Big Show is limited in the type of storyline you can build around him, while Roman Reigns has done nothing aside from get better and better in all areas. What is next? Who is next? Does this really accomplish anything for Roman?
A Missed Opportunity For WWE Divas Division
Nikki Bella took on Naomi in a WWE Divas Championship match. It was really heel vs. heel, as two women battled a pretty decent match. The chemistry was there and the ability of Naomi (athletically) made Nikki work hard to keep up with her. I think Nikki is more marketable, right now, than Naomi. I do think that WWE should have pulled the trigger on Naomi and let her get a chance at holding the WWE Divas Championship.
This is no knock on Nikki at all, but isn’t she at a point where the title is not doing much for her? She has the best overall look amongst Divas. She is a star of Total Divas. She gets the reaction, title or not. Nikki Bella is THAT popular and good overall in terms of marketing and public exposure. That is why this could have been a great opportunity for Naomi to dethrone the champion and make a big impact. Her heel gimmick is still fresh, but a win here would do great things in establishing her in a division that lacks legit contenders. Instead, it looks like she was just a filler for Paige.
