WWE SmackDown Results:

Highlights from WrestleMania are shown.

FATU!

Jacob Fatu notes that he told Roman Reigns on Monday that he wanted him. Fatu doesn’t want that title; he needs that title. Reigns looked Fatu in the eye and said, “Jacob, you aren’t ready.” The truth is, Reigns is right. Fatu’s been hearing he’s not ready his whole life. Fatu demands Reigns step into the ring and prove Fatu’s not ready. The Uso’s music hits, and Jimmy and Jey make their way to the ring. Jimmy says they heard what Fatu said on Monday. Fatu can have all that OTC has and more. Jimmy suggests that Fatu go after Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Run the play that they are running and don’t do this. The crowd chants for Fatu. Jimmy tells him not to listen to the people. The people can’t give Fatu what he’s looking for. Jey says the problem is it’s too late for all that. Since Fatu opened his mouth, he has to swim in the deep end.

If Fatu wants Reigns’ respect, he needs to walk up to Reigns and bring it. The MFT’s music hits. Solo Sikoa and the MFTS walk the ramp. Sikoa tells Fatu that his brothers are lying. He’s the one who brought Fatu here. If Fatu wants to beat Reigns and be champion, Sikoa can make that happen. Sikoa says Fatu can’t do it alone; he’s going to need an army. Sikoa has an army. Tama Tonga grabs the mic from Sikoa and asks why they are wasting their time with this. Fatu can’t beat Reigns, hell, Fatu can’t even beat Sikoa. Fatu superkicks Tama for talking smack. The crowd goes nuts. Fatu says the only person he should be talking to right now is Roman Reigns. Fatu wants Sikoa in the ring tonight. He’s all gas, no breaks, don’cha know?

Grade: B

Great opening segment. Fatu has the fire back in his promos, and the idea that all of the Bloodline folks are tied up in this makes perfect sense. Fatu can’t level up unless he exercises the demon that is Solo Sikoa.

Women’s United States Championship Match | Giulia (c) vs. Tiffany Stratton

Stratton gets the win after hitting the Prettiest Moonsault Ever.

Winner and NEW Women’s United States Champion, Tiffany Stratton!

Grade: C+

Perfectly fine TV match. Stratton hasn’t exactly been lighting the streets on fire as of late, so maybe this title win will give her a jolt. Conversely, this writer has no idea what this will mean for Giulia moving forward. Giulia has been given two title reigns an absolutely nothing to do during each. It’s bizarre.

Brie MODE

Brie notes that, even though she couldn’t compete against her sister at WrestleMania, it was special to have a friend stand with her. Brie welcomes Paige back. The crowd does the same. Paige asks the crowd to forgive her because she’s lost her voice (she sounds awful). Paige “exclaims,” she is so happy to be home. They were in the ring with some amazing women, but Paige is here to remind them that SmackDown is her house. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss interrupt, and they want a match. Brie and Paige agree.

Grade: C+

Nice to see Paige and have her banger of a theme back. Sad to say, there wasn’t much here.

Paige and Brie Bella vs. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss

Midway through the match, former NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne appears and attacks Paige. Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid hit the ring and take everyone out.

No Contest

Fatal Influence leaves both teams laid out.

Grade: C-

We all know Fatal Influence was going to debut tonight, but… this wasn’t it. They interrupted a tag match, which is fine, but that tag match featured the tag team champions and no singles champions. Having Henley and Reid attack the tag champs makes sense, but what in God’s name was Jayne doing out there? This would have been more impactful if Jayne had interacted with or attacked one of the singles champions. Odd stuff.

Undisputed

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes wants to talk about how he left WrestleMania. Battered and bloody, Rhodes still walked up the ramp. No matter what, he always gets back up. Rhodes puts over Randy Orton, but Orton gave him his best shot. But Rhodes got back up. Rhodes quips that he wants to send a message to a sarcastic Sami Zayn, who called Rhodes the golden boy. Rhodes came to WrestleMania draped in gold just to prove a point. One final message: anyone else who wants to get involved in his business is 0-3, so they need to sit down, count their money, and mind their business. Anyone who wants to find Rhodes knows where he is. Doesn’t matter if you are from Raw, SmackDown, or NXT. Rhodes is easy to find and hard to beat.

Grade: B

Great promo (taking shots at TKO is fun… and warranted), but with it being the SmackDown after WrestleMania, the fact that we didn’t get anything more than just a promo with Rhodes is a strange choice, but this has been a night of strange choices, hasn’t it?

Backstage, Solo Sikoa tells Tama Tonga and JC Mateo not to fail him tonight in the tag team title match.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Damian Priest and R-Truth (c) vs. The MFTs

Priest and Truth get the win after Priest gets a blind tag, leading to All Rise by the champions.

Winners and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions, Damian Priest and R-Truth!

Grade: C

This was the definition of a SmackDown match. For this to be considered a “big” show, they are not giving us much to work with here.

It’s a CELEBRATION…

The new United States Champion, Trick Williams, is in the ring with Lil Boat. Lil Yachty announces he is here to stay and he’s the prophecy. Williams is Michael Jordan, and Lil Yachty is Phil Jackson. Lil Yachty announces no more open challenges for the United States Championship. As Williams and Lil Yachty celebrate, the gingerbread man hits Williams with a candy cane (yes, you read that correctly). A shocked Lil Yachty checks on Williams. The gingerbread man hits Lil Yachty with the cane. The gingerbread man removes his mask, and it’s Sami Zayn. The crowd boos Zayn out of the building. Zayn lays Williams out with the Helluva Kick.

Grade: A

Sami is the biggest heel on SmackDown. This was great. Everything about it. Lil Yachty being Williams hype-man permanently, Zayn turning heel (that was a heel turn, whether they wanted it to be or not). All good stuff.

Danhausen vs. The Miz w/Kit Wilson

Miz stares at Danhausen. A puff of smoke goes off, and Danhausen runs away. Miz gives chase, but ends up running into Wilson. Danhausen drives away in the Danhausenmobile.

Grade: B-

If they didn’t take the time to show us that Danhausen pays off the pyro guys, this writer would dump all over this match. But since they gave us some logic for this, I won’t. This was fun. Danhausen is just fun.

Mami is on Top

The new WWE Women’s Champion, Rhea Ripley, proclaims she is finally the champion once again. Ripley notes that Jade Cargill proved that she can go. But now it’s time for her to show that she is a fighting women’s champion. Ripley issues an open challenge. Jacy Jayne and the rest of Fatal Influence interrupt. The crowd drowns Jayne out with boos. Jayne powers through the promo, even though she has more heat than prime Vickie Guerrero. Ripley wants a fight and tells Jayne to take her shot. SmackDown GM Nick Aldis walks out and books Jayne vs. Ripley right now.

Jacy Jayne w/Fatal Influence vs. Rhea Ripley

Ripley is in control for most of this. After a distraction from Reid and Henley, Jayne takes over with an apron PK. After the break, Jayne is working over Ripley. Ripley fires up and lands a flurry, capped with a nasty dropkick. Jayne escapes the Razor’s Edge and lands a superkick. Jayne obliterates Ripley with a pump knee strike.

Ripley kicks out. Ripley ducks the Rollins Encore and lands a big boot. Jayne crotches Ripley on the ropes and tries a superplex. Ripley slips out and kicks Jayne in the head. Razor’s Edge by Ripley. Jayne kicks out after a running kick from Ripley. Ripley sets up Riptide, but Henley and Reid attack Ripley.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

After the match, Fatal Influence beat down Ripley. Henley and Reid hold Ripley in place while Jayne drops her with a Rolling Encore.

Grade: B

Great match. Jayne has always been solid in the ring, but seeing her in there holding her own and actually acting like a heel in there was amazing to see. However, something can be said for WWE being cowards and not pulling the trigger on a title change here. With the nuclear heat Jayne had here tonight, call and audible and PULL THE TRIGGER!

Backstage, the Usos offer to watch Jacob Fatu’s back. Fatu says he doesn’t need any help.

Jacob Fatu vs. Solo Sikoa w/The MFTs

Sikoa is in control early. Fatu fires up, but after Sikoa pulls away the referee, Tama Tonga dives off the steps and clocks Fatu. Back in the ring, Fatu notices Jimmy and Jey walking down the ramp. Fatu yells that he doesn’t want their help. As Fatu turns around, Sikoa turns him inside out with a lariat. After the break, Fatu fires up and crushes Sikoa with a running hip attack.

After another distraction from the MFTs, Sikoa sets up his Spike. Fatu avoids it and lands a superkick. Fatu goes up top, but the MFTs get involved again, and Mateo pushes Fatu off the top. Fatu takes out the MFTs with a dive, but walks into Spinning Solo. Big Splash by Sikoa! Fatu kicks out! Sikoa sets up the Samoan Spike. Fatu ducks it and lands another superkick followed by the Mighty Moonsault for the win.

Winner: Jacob Fatu

After the match, the MFTs jump Fatu. Fatu takes them all out with a chair, as the Usos watch from the apron. Fatu puts chairs on Mateo and Tama’s necks. Running hip attacks to both by Fatu. Fatu dives into Tonga Loa. Fatu puts Loa on the commentary desk and puts him through it with a dive off the other table. The Usos look on, shocked. Fatu rolls back in the ring and tells the Uso to tell Reigns he’ll see him at Monday Night Raw.

Grade: B

Good match, and another good win for Fatu. Fatu has lost a bit of his mystique over the last few months. Stringing together wins like this will help, and having Fatu completely obliterate an entire faction himself goes a long way to rebuilding a badd @$$.

WWE SmackDown Review:

When you weigh this show up against previous after WrestleMania SmackDowns, this ranks in the bottom half. Obviously, you don’t want to make it a debut fest, but the matches and angles that you run have to be big. Not much on this show fits that bill, even the Fatal Influence debut, though much enticpated, felt somewhat hollow. Rhodes’ promo was great, but it was missing the necessary hook to set the level of the title picture after WrestleMania. Fatu looked strong tonight while dismantling an entire faction, which is good with him heading into a title match at Backlash. Overall, this show is still the mess it was months ago, but there is a significant amount of new blood on the horizon. Hopefully, that’s enough to inject some much-needed life into this show.
