HEELS Interview: Rooster Isn’t Waiting For Permission, Bobby Pin Takes A ‘Superman’ Approach

Allen Maldonado and Trey Tucker‘s characters in HEELS are looking to enter the spotlight during the show’s second season.

HEELS co-stars Allen Maldonado and Trey Tucker *spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard to discuss season two of the series. Maldonado was asked about the new attitude and confidence his character, Rooster Robbins, showcased in the new season. Maldonado said it got to the point where Rooster was no longer waiting for permission to go after what he wanted.

“It got to a point with Rooster, I think he just realized that he was a one-man army no matter what. Whether it’s the DWL or Dystopia, he was no longer waiting for permission,” Maldonado said. “He’s going after what he wants and maintaining it and by any means, and in this sort, very opinionated and very led by two men that have their own sort of focus and ideas of where they want to take the lead. He’s making his imprint and making his impact without permission.”

Superman Approach

Trey Tucker’s Bobby Pin was sidelined in season one because of a broken leg. The injury still plays a role in season two. Tucker teased that he took a Superman-like approach to his character this season that made him find a purpose when his original passion is taken away.

“Without revealing too much, I think it was a cool thing for Bobby [Pin] to have to go through. It’s a bit like — ‘what happens to Superman when he loses his powers? Who is he?'” Trey Tucker asked. “And not that Bobby’s Superman, obviously. But that archetype of like, what happens when this thing that you have that’s so much a part of who you are goes away? You’ve got a love interest that you might think that this [trait] is a meaningful part of why they’re interested in you and then you can’t do it anymore.

“Those kinds of questions, it makes you focus as a person. You kind of have to focus more on the other aspects of who you are. And I think that’s a cool thing to watch Bobby go through and figure out. I’ve enjoyed getting to do that. I hated that f**ing boot, but at least we’ll see what happens the next time.”

HEELS returns for its second season on STARZ on July 28.

*This interview was recorded prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
