Maya World Reflects On Her Recent Experience At Ring Of Honor

Maya World looks back on her Ring of Honor experience.

Maya World recently partook in back-to-back Ring of Honor tapings. On December 15, World appeared as one of the flag bearers for Shane Taylor Promotions as Taylor prepared to lock up with Keith Lee at ROH Final Battle. The following night, World received an opportunity to face ROH Women’s Champion Athena in a proving ground match. While speaking with WrestleZone‘s Ella Jay, World reflected back on her ROH experience, sharing her excitement in working with Taylor and Athena.

“Being back there with so many people that you see on the TV all the time was crazy,” World said. “That’s probably the first time I’ve seen so many wrestlers who are like actually active on TV in one space and setting, so that was really cool. Then [with] Shane, I was so excited to go out there with him because I knew him. He wrestles in Dallas a lot at VIP Wrestling. He was the heavyweight champion before, so going out there with him was very exciting. I went alongside a friend who I actually started training with also, so that was dope for me. I was glad he gave me that opportunity, and then later [wrestling] Athena, so it was just a crazy day.”

Backstage Insight

In addition to her on-screen role, World revealed that she also had a productive time backstage as well, absorbing knowledge from the likes of Mark Henry, Prince Nana, and Scorpio Sky.

“I was in catering and [Mark Henry] was here. He had like a lot of chairs around his table, but it’s Mark Henry. I’m like I need to talk to him but I’m not going to do it right now, so I went to the table next to him. I was alone, so he looked at me, he’s like ‘Why you sitting over there alone? Come over here,’ which is so cool because I was like scared. So I went to go sit by him and then him, Prince Nana, and also Scorpio Sky were there,” World said.

“They were giving me a lot of advice on just everything. Nutrition, dieting, presenting yourself, how to make yourself stand out — ’cause I was going to be an extra — how to make yourself stand out when you’re in there. [They were also explaining] how to basically make others look good when you’re in there just so you can get a call back and just keep coming. Then maybe one day you’ll be the one that other people are making you look good. So yeah, [they taught me] just basically how to stand out in the ring.”
