ROH: Cody Defending IWGP US Title In Toronto

ROH has announced that Cody Rhodes will be defending his IWGP United States championship against Berretta in Toronto at the ROH Global Wars event:

Cody defeated Juice Robinson at Fighting Spirit Unleashed to capture the IWGP United States Championship and will make his first defense on the Global Wars Tour! And he will defend it for a man he has known for nearly a decade in Beretta!

But Cody is seemingly taking this challenge lightly, posting a poll on Twitter asking fans if Beretta deserved this championship opportunity, including a “Who?” option on the poll.

When left to a fan vote, however, the fans delivered, and Beretta, who has shown incredible gumption to return from torn bicep and pectoral muscles ahead of schedule, will face the American Nightmare with the title on the line and a chip on his shoulder!

Beretta has been on a roll in New Japan and Ring of Honor in tag team competition with his tag team partner Chuckie T., with wins over Bully Ray and Silas Young, Killer Elite Squad, and more. But Beretta goes at it on his own in Toronto with a singles opportunity to bring home singles gold!

In this battle of The Elite versus CHAOS, Beretta, who has singles victories over Will Ospreay, Volador Jr., Yujiro Takahashi, Toa Henare, and more, has the opportunity of a lifetime.

Who will pick up the victory in this HUGE title match and leave Toronto the IWGP United States Champion? Buy your ticket and join us LIVE or watch LIVE as all four nights are being broadcast LIVE for HonorClub!

ROH: Top 5 Scariest Competitors

To get ready for Halloween, ROHWrestling.com has listed its top five scariest wrestlers currently on the roster. The list shakes out like this.:

5. THE BOUNCERS

At a combined weight of nearly 700 pounds, Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas are the very definition of big and scary. The Bouncers, who recently took ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay and Mark Briscoe to the limit, get a kick out of throwing their weight around, whether they’re tossing opponents around the ring or tossing patrons out of a bar. The beer-guzzling, brawling behemoths are a throwback to when men such as Dick The Bruiser and The Crusher were cracking skulls.

4. EVIL

Of course a man known as “The King of Darkness” is going to make the list. The New Japan Pro-Wrestling star competed regularly in ROH in 2014-2015 under his real name, Takaaki Watanabe, but after returning to Japan, he joined Los Ingobernables de Japon and transformed into the macabre EVIL. The cloaked warrior has been striking fear into opponents and winning titles ever since. EVIL has continued to make occasional appearances in ROH, and he’ll be a part of the Global Wars tour next month.

3. THE BRISCOES

The nine-time ROH World Tag Team Champions not only are the most successful tag team in ROH history and one of the sport’s greatest duos of all time, but they’re also the meanest, nastiest and most sadistic. Looking like they stepped right out of “Deliverance” or a Rob Zombie movie, Dem Boys from Sandy Fork, Del., have always been a bit unhinged, but they’ve become even more dangerous and unpredictable over the past year since focusing once again on dominating the tag team division in ROH.

2. BULLY RAY

If ever there was a pro wrestler who lived up to his moniker it’s Bully Ray. The overbearing Hall of Famer has been terrorizing wrestlers, fans and even commentators and ring announcers for nearly three decades. There’s no questioning his ability inside the ring, but what makes Bully Ray so dangerous is his willingness to gain an advantage by any means necessary, whether it means ambushing an opponent, brutalizing them with a chain, putting them through a table or delivering a swift kick below the belt.

1. VINNY MARSEGLIA

Halloween is every day for “The Horror King.” Since being brought to ROH two years ago by Matt Taven to form the new Kingdom along with TK O’Ryan, Marseglia has been dishing out cruel and unusual punishment through a combination of athleticism and sadism. Coming to the ring wearing a grotesque mask, wielding an axe and bearing ominous red balloons, Marseglia is a horror movie monster come to life. In an example of art imitating life, Marseglia plays a psychopathic killer in the soon-to-be-released horror movie, “The Find.”
