2018 was truly was a breakout year for Becky Lynch. She had long established herself as one of the best wrestlers in the company regardless of gender, but this year she emerged as the company’s top star, period. That’s why it’s no surprise that she was voted by Wrestlezone’s readers as the Female Wrestler of the Year!
She smashed the competition by receiving 64% of the vote (the biggest winner of any of our awards by a large margin). The Irish wrestler’s 2018 had a slower start, but she still had some memorable moments in both the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match and in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal. However, her year picked up significantly once she began feuding with Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown’s Women’s Championship. It was here that her newfound confidence was shown, and a match of the year contender was put on at WWE Evolution.
Since then, she’s been the most over act in the entire company. It truly looks like the best is yet to come for Lynch and that her 2019 will be even greater than her 2018. More history could be made, and I know that many (myself included) would love to see her main event WrestleMania this year.
It’s been an inspirational year for Becky Lynch, and it shows that great things come to those that work hard and hone their craft.
