WWE Network To Host Six Hour Retrospective For Intercontinental Championship’s 40th Anniversary

Just under forty years ago, a legendary tournament took place in Rio de Janeiro to crown WWE’s first Intercontinental Champion. The tournament is so legendary that no video of it actually exists, but Pat Paterson brought home the gold either way.

To honor this history, most of it much truer than the above, WWE Network is planning on hosting a six-hour retrospective chronicling the full history of the title. As reported by WWE Network News, the special is dubbed “20 Matches that Define the Intercontinental Title.” Hosted by Zack Ryder, viewers will watch “20 of the greatest matches that made the title prestigious, featuring Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Seth Rollins and more in classic matches and forgotten gems.”

The special is currently set to premiere on September 1st, although a time hasn’t been announced as of yet. As with all WWE Network programming, you’ll be able to watch the broadcast on-demand after the initial premiere.
