SmackDown Women’s Title Bout Announced For 7/16, Liv Morgan Added To Money In The Bank Match

Bayley and WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair were set to face off at the upcoming WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view. However, at tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, the bout was cancelled after the company broke the news of Bayley’s severe injury earlier in the day.

In the ring during tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Sonya Deville announced that Bayley’s knee injury will force her to be out for nine months. She then showed a video footage of Bayley announcing the injury and blaming the fans for it. Deville wished her a speedy recovery before she announced that, after careful consideration, she’s decided that Bianca Belair will no longer be defending her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at the pay-per-view. Instead, she will be defending it next week during SmackDown’s first show in front of fans since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Deville announced that Belair will defend the title against Carmella next Friday.

An irate Liv Morgan came to the ring after Carmella joined Deville to celebrate the news. Morgan demanded to know why Deville continues to run the women’s division the way she does, as she accused the officical of inexcusable favoritism. Deville told her to shut up and said that she was about to appoint her as Carmella’s replacement in the Women’s Money in the Bank Match. Morgan agreed to leave the ring before she further aggravated Deville, but she also made it clear that she wants to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase on her rival.

Morgan joins Naomi, Asuka, Alexa Bliss, Nikki Cross, Zelina Vega and two currently unknown entrants in the Women’s Money in the Bank match.
