Indi Hartwell Looks Back On In-Dex’s ‘Perfect’ Wedding, Explains Why She’s Proud Of It

In-Dex shocked the wrestling world when their wedding wasn’t ruined by the typical shenanigans WWE fans have come to expect whenever two stars tie the knot.

This ceremony puncuated the first arc of the love story between Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis, which unfolded throughout the first several months of 2021. As the storyline progressed, many fans invested in the romance, and it became one of the most popular aspects of WWE NXT.

In an interview with Rick Ucchino of Sportskeeda Wrestling, Hartwell looked back on the wedding and stated that she’s particularly proud of the culmination of this program.

“I think my favorite part of it would definitely have to be the wedding because obviously wrestling weddings don’t usually go down without a hitch but this one, I think was perfect,” said Hartwell. “There was a lot of characters, a lot of comedy and it had a really happy and satisfying ending. So if there’s one thing I’m really proud of out of my career, it’s definitely the wedding.”

Hartwell also shared her thoughts on the storyline’s popularity; she described how the InDex romance was easy for fans to get into because many viewers could relate to the story they were telling.

“I think the thing that makes it so loved and relatable is that the storyline is relatable, you know,” said Hartwell. “It’s like the girl chasing after this guy who’s, you know, the parents don’t really approve, and everyone’s trying to pull her away from him. And finally she overcomes all of that, even though she has the overprotective parents and people telling her not to go for it because he’s a serial killer.

“People can relate to that I think more so than the body slams and the championships, which is also cool to watch, but yeah, I think that’s why people got so into the storyline, and I’m really so proud of everything we did with it.”

Finally, with the members of The Way going their separate ways, Hartwell explained that it’s “bittersweet” to see Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and Austin Theory doing their own respective things, and she’ll miss working alongside them as a group.

“It’s definitely, like you said, it’s bittersweet,” said Hartwell. “It’s good because Austin’s moving up in the world, and I think he’s gonna do an amazing job on RAW. And obviously Candice is pregnant right now. I’m doing my own thing in the tag division, and Johnny’s just come back going after the North American Title, so it’s kinda cool to see a year later we’re all doing our own things but it’s kinda sad. I’m really gonna miss everything that we did together on TV.
