Report: The Briscoes Not Expected In AEW Anytime Soon

For fans hoping to see The Briscoes on AEW Dynamite, you might have to keep waiting for a good long time.

Ever since the brawl between FTR and The Briscoes at Ring of Honor Final Battle last December, fans have been anticipating a match between these two tag teams on an episode of AEW Dynamite, but The Briscoes never arrived. We now have some information as to why their All Elite Wrestling debut hasn’t happened.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, prior to Tony Khan buying Ring of Honor, there were no plans to sign The Briscoes to All Elite Wrestling. Stating that a “person of influence” within WarnerMedia didn’t want Khan signing The Briscoes due to Jay Briscoe‘s homophobic tweets from back in 2013.

While this remains a point of contention against the tag team among many, Ring of Honor sources have told Sapp that there have been no issues with the tag team since that incident almost a decade ago.

For everyone hoping to see The Briscoes face-off with FTR in the squared circle, there were no imminent plans for this to happen as of a month ago. It’s unknown if Khan’s purchase of Ring of Honor might have changed these plans. SRS did confirm that both teams are open to doing the match and several independent promoters are willing to spend “significant money by indie standards” to make the matchup happen.

The Briscoes were announced to defend the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Titles at Supercard of Honor against a mystery team before it was announced that Tony Khan bought the company. At this time, the status of the match and The Briscoes themselves are seemingly up in the air.
