Tony Khan Views ROH Supercard Of Honor As A Pilot For The Company Like Double Or Nothing Was For AEW

It sounds like Tony Khan is ready to pull out all the stops for Ring of Honor Supercard of Honor next Friday night.

All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan was a guest this morning on Busted Open Radio with Dave LeGreca and Tommy Dreamer to discuss a wide variety of subjects. During the discussion, Khan spoke about the upcoming Supercard of Honor pay-per-view and how this isn’t normally something he would do but wants to do right by the fans who have already purchased tickets for the show.

“I only know one way to do pay-per-view, and it’s going 100% and doing the very best you can,” Tony Khan said. “So I promise to make that pay-per-view. Great. I know that there are a lot of people that are going to be around the Dallas metroplex area at that time. And I’ll be honest. This is my first time going out there for that particular event weekend. It’s not normally something I would do; it’s not normally something AEW would do. And in fact, it’s not something AEW would ever do, and we’re not doing it. Because the event had been scheduled in advance by Ring of Honor, and the tickets have been sold. I really felt like the right thing to do is do right by the fans here was have the show and to make it the best show I possibly could.

“Even though it’s unusual for us to go into enemy territory and run a show that weekend. It’s normally something associated with smaller wrestling companies and something I didn’t want to do, and that being said, since it was booked and the fans were committed to it, I’m going to go in 100% and make it the best possible thing I can. So I never expected to be talking about WrestleMania weekend and about the logistics of the shows there. I have been told that they booked this show a little bit out there. For what’s going on and maybe a little bit off the beaten path. But I’m just going to tell everyone right now it’s going to be worth it to come to the show. It’s going to be worth it to stay.

“I know there are other people doing shows on Friday night, but this is going to be the best one, and I’m going to make sure that it is, and you know people can troll and say what they want. But the people that have actually ordered that pay-per-views know, nobody does pay-per-views better at this point. And that’s not an opinion. That’s a fact. And so, I will promise to deliver an awesome pay-per-view here. The best Ring of Honor pay-per-view I could possibly do. It’ll be different than an AEW pay-per-view. But in terms of promising that there’s going to be good matches and I’ll deliver a lot of fun stuff for the fans and do the best I can. It will be very similar.

“So that is a promise right now, and I know there will be a lot of people around the Dallas area. You’re going to want to come. We’ll be announcing more for the show, and then there’s going to be a lot of fun stuff I’m not going to announce. So I think it would be in everyone’s best interest if you’re in the area for the show. Consider coming out to Garland for this. It’ll be worth the trip. And if you’re watching stuff that weekend, it’ll be a great pay-per-view. It’s even on head to head with AEW Rampage next Friday. And I’m going to make Rampage awesome too. I take that challenge and try to put as much great wrestling on a Friday as we possibly can. And I’m really excited about all that.”

Tommy Dreamer then joked about the concept that wrestling fans like great wrestling matches. Khan said wrestling fans are the best and that he views Supercard of Honor as a pilot for the new Ring of Honor much like Double or Nothing was the pilot for All Elite Wrestling.

“Wrestling fans are the absolute best,” Tony Khan said. “And the one thing I wish is I wish I had control of the TV for months to build to this pay-per-view, but I haven’t, and this will really be my first show in charge of Ring of Honor, and I’m really excited about it. It’s been awesome working with some new people and meeting some new people. And though it’s not how I’m used to building a card, but on the other hand, we didn’t have TV before the original Double or Nothing, and there is so many great fans online that follow pro wrestling that want to see exciting matches.

“I believe if I can put together these exciting matches, we can build off this pay-per-view and almost use it as a pilot for a new product the same way as the original Double or Nothing launched a new AEW. I have so much respect for the history of Ring of Honor, and I think that will hopefully come through in the Supercard pay-per-view next Friday on FITE TV and pay-per-view or anybody that comes out to Dallas for the show, but I really believe it will be if not the highlight of the weekend. One of the highlights of the weekend, and I’ll do my best to make it a great show as good a show as I think we can do for Ring of Honor.”

Dave LeGreca pointed out that Ring of Honor means a lot to wrestling fans and wonders if that is something Khan has to keep in mind when putting together a show like this. Khan said he’s very aware of that and that Ring of Honor means a lot to him too and that he’s thrilled to bring this show to the fans.

“I’m very well aware, and it’s meant a lot to me too,” Tony Khan said. “A lot of the great Ring of Honor stars over the years have come to AEW, but there’s so many great stars that are still in Ring of Honor or stars out there in other places in pro wrestling that I want to bring back to Ring of Honor. So I’m really thrilled to be able to bring that to the fans.”
