Stephanie McMahon surprised many when she announced she would be taking a leave of absence from her duties at WWE this week.
In a new report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, more details on the move were revealed, including the fact that it might not been a true surprise.
Fightful’s report notes that although people did consider the move sudden, “it didn’t come overnight” according to many of Fightful’s sources. Instead, the move had been brewing for quite a bit, and that no marital or relationship issues were at the root of the move. The report goes on to mention that Triple H is back working at WWE now, although his duties at the company are now “categorically different” than they were prior to his cardiac event. As for Stephanie’s role, Fightful notes that WWE President Nick Khan has taken over some of McMahon’s work.
While it’s still exactly unknown just why Stephanie left, Fightful did note that last year, a large contingent of McMahon’s team that she worked directly with was dismantled during various rounds of office layoffs. Regardless, Fightful’s WWE sources said that while the company was surprised, they still consider her a part of the WWE family, and do expect her back eventually.
