NJPW Best of Super Juniors 29 Finals Set

El Desperado and Hiromu Takahashi are destined to do this forever. Both men won their respective blocks on Tuesday, advancing to the finals of the 29th Best of Super Juniors tournament. It will be a rematch from the 2020 finals that saw Hiromu Takahashi best Desperado in a highly-praised match.

Hiromu Takahashi defeated IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori to win BoSJ 29’s A Block, while El Desperado defeated Bullet Club’s El Phantasmo to advance. The win put Desperado firmly on the road to redemption.

Not only is El Desperado looking to avenge his 2020 loss to Hiromu, but also needs to get his hands on Ishimori. IWGP Jr. Champ for much of the year, Desperado lost the belt to Ishimori back at the beginning of the month. With the winner getting a shot at Ishimori’s title on June 11th, Desperado is in good position to not only beat his most heated rival on June 3rd, but also regain his lost title on June 11th.

Takahashi is looking to continue his historic streak through the Best of Super Juniors tournament. A win on June 3rd would mean that not only would Hiromu break his tie with Koji Kanemoto for Most Best of Super Juniors wins in company history, but he would also become the first man in the history of the tournament to win three years in a row.

While many will be clamoring for El Desperado’s moment, the idea of making Hiromu Takahashi the be-all and end-all of the NJPW Juniors Division.
